The Signal Processing Group (SPG) of Universidad Carlos III opens pre-doctoral positions (Ph.D. studentships) for research in one or more of the following areas - computational statistics, - machine learning, - stochastic filtering, - uncertainty quantification, - information theory, and related applications in engineering, medicine, geophysics or the social sciences.
SPG (http://gts.tsc.uc3m.es) is a dynamic team conducting both pre-competitive and applied research, with financial support from public administrations (Spanish & European) and industrial partners. SPG is a unit of the Department of Signal Theory & Communications, which is itself integrated in the Polytechnic School of Universidad Carlos III (www.uc3m.es/uc3m/eng/index-eng.html), where several Engineering and Mathematics degrees are imparted. The School is located in Leganés, a lively town just a 20-minute drive away from the centre of Madrid and well communicated by public transport (railway, underground and bus).
About the position: Potential candidates should hold a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics or a closely related field. Successful applicants are expected to enroll the Department's Master and/or Ph. D. Programmes, depending on their qualifications. The working language within the SPG is English. Depending on the candidate background and qualifications the source of funding may be different, which leads to minor differences in the wages as well. In any case, the salary will range between 1,100 and 1,400 €/month.
Deadline: This is an open call. There is no strict deadline for the submission of applications. However, we aim at February 1st, 2015, or as soon as possible thereafter, as a starting date for the fellowships/contracts.
