This post is offered jointly by the Department of Statistical Science and the Research Department of Primary Care and Population Health (PCPH), and the Research Associate will be expected to contribute to methodological and applied research being developed in both departments. The post is available immediately and is funded for 3 years in the first instance.
For the first eighteen months, work will focus on the MRC funded project: “The Regression Discontinuity Design: a novel approach to evaluating the effect of drugs and treatments in primary care http://www.statistica.it/gianluca/RDD (RDD), led by Dr Gianluca Baio. In parallel and over the latter eighteen months, the Research Associate will also work on collaborative projects led by Prof Irwin Nazareth and Dr Irene Petersen at PCPH, including several investigations of epidemiological data contained in large administrative registries, such as the THIN database.
Candidates should hold or be close to submitting a PhD (or equivalent qualification) in Statistics or Epidemiology. It is essential that the successful candidate has experience of managing large databases, programming experience in statistical software packages e.g. R or STATA and excellent organisational and communication skills. An MSc (or equivalent qualification) in Statistics, Medical Statistics or Epidemiology is also desirable.
If the successful candidate has not yet been awarded their PhD, the appointment will initially be made as Research Assistant on Grade 6 of the UCL salary scale (£29,193 - £30,783 per annum inclusive of London Allowance), and the appointee will be regraded to Research Associate on completion of the PhD.
