Postdoc in Bristol

The University of Bristol seeks outstanding candidates for a research associate position tenable from 1st September 2015 or a date to be agreed for a duration of 2 years. The position is one of five positions funded by an EPSRC funded collaborative project, “i-like” between the Universities of Bristol, Lancaster, Oxford and Warwick. The successful candidate will become a member of the Probability and Statistics Group within the School of Mathematics in Bristol. Candidates will be expected to have demonstrated outstanding research potential.

The i-like project (http://www.i-like.org.uk) is funded by the first ever EPSRC programme grant in Statistics and provides a unique postdoctoral opportunity for talented young statistical researchers with an interest in collaborative research.

The project investigates a wide range of statistical and computational approaches to intractable likelihood, including the development of theory, methodology and applications in a wide range of application areas (including genetics and genomics, infectious disease epidemiology, ecology, commerce and bibliometrics). While many applicants will have some expertise which is relevant to one or more of these areas, we encourage applicants with proven research ability in other areas of statistics to apply also.

The Probability and Statistics Group at the University of Bristol is internationally recognised with interests spanning a broad range of areas and numerous collaborations with other disciplines. The School of Mathematics is one of the leading centres for research and teaching in mathematics in the UK. In addition to Probability and Statistics there are groups working in Applied Mathematics and Pure Mathematics. In the REF2014, the School was rated 4th overall and 2nd for impact when “intensity” is taken into account (see http://www.bristol.ac.uk/news/2015/january/ref-update.html)

The School of Mathematics is a supporter of the LMS Good Practice Scheme aiming at advancing women's careers in mathematics and we therefore particularly welcome applications from women for this post.
