We’re looking for a Data Scientist to be based in our Christchurch Office.
You’ll play a leading role in the research and development of new products, capabilities, and standardised practices using Big Data technologies.

You will have experience and knowledge in end-to-end delivery of advanced analytics solutions, and you will interact with a team of data scientists and database specialists in the areas of data modelling and processing. THE KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and develop advanced analytics models using statistical and mathematical techniques
- Collaborate with other development teams to produce world class innovative products
- Appraise and report on new development techniques and vendor products, and make recommendations on the acquisition of advanced technology
- Facilitate the convergence of ‘leading edge’ technologies into the existing enterprise architecture
- Diagnose and solve technical issues that may arise during the advanced analytics development life cycle
- Provide technical solution definition and design, system configuration, data integration, and technical support during the implementation phase
- Develop software design coding and testing according to specific work packages and project needs, in accordance with designated company standards of methodology, style and quality
- Perform technical tasks, including unit test functions, as required, supporting the internal quality and control arrangements as defined by company policy and project requirements
- Undertaking assigned integration planning and software building definition tasks
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications
- Post-graduate study and experience will be preferred
- Significant experience in development of machine learning models using specialised languages including R, MatLab, Java, Python, Scala, C++
- Experience in end to end solution development and delivery
- Experience in the design and development of machine learning algorithms with practical applications, including some/all of the following:
-- Software applications
-- Software frameworks
-- Tools/components
- Experience in statistical and mathematical modelling
- Deep understanding of mathematical and statistical concepts, including linear algebra, statistical inference and data analysis
- Experience in NoSQL databases is essential e.g. Hadoop, Cassandra, Hbase etc
- Demonstrated skills in application design
- Superior communication skills, with an ability to communicate complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
