This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Mathematical Sciences (DMS). The Department is a growing and vibrant department in the Faculty of Science and Health. DMS is internationally known for its research in a range of areas, and offers an excellent education to its students. The Department is expanding due to increasing student numbers, and now wishes to appoint additional lecturers to help us grow our teaching and research. Duties of the post
The Department of Mathematical Sciences wish to appoint a full-time Lecturer in the area of Data Science and Statistics. The research of the department is structured in two groups: Data Science and Mathematics. The new Lecturer is expected to contribute to the Data Science research group of the department. We wish to add capability to the School's existing research in this area as well as open up and develop new research activities that will become recognized as outstanding and internationally leading. Of special interest is data science and statistics research in Artificial Intelligence, Big data applications in society, ethics, health, and sustainability, Sustainability, Wellbeing and mental health, Ageing society-socio-genomics.
The post will also include teaching on our actuarial science, data science and mathematics courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. This may include delivering existing modules and developing new ones and enhancing our research-led education in this area.

Appointment will be made as Lecturer.
Qualifications and Skills required Applicants should have a PhD in Data Science or Statistics or a related discipline; or the expectation of a PhD qualification prior to the start of the appointment. You should also have a relevant degree in Data Science or Statistics or related discipline, as well as Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain such recognition by the end of your probationary period and evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes.
The successful candidate should also have proven experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in Higher Education in imaginative, engaging and innovative ways as well as experience of designing and planning learning activities (modules, programmes of study, etc.), developing effective learning environments (face to face and/or virtual) and approaches to student support and guidance and evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes.
