POSTDOCTORAL RESESARCH ASSOCIATE IN STATISTICS

Salary range: £31,604 - £38,833 per annum

Applications are invited for a Research Associate in Statistics. The post is available for 2 years from 1 September 2018 (or by negotiation). Appointments will be made at an appropriate point on the University's Research Associate scale.
The post is connected with Professor Richard Nickl’s ERC grant ‘Uncertainty Quantification and Modern Statistical Inference’. The Research Associate will work in the broad area of mathematical statistics. Research experience in any of the following subjects is helpful but not necessary: statistical inverse problems, Bayesian nonparametric statistics. The position is associated with a generous research allowance for academic visits/equipment etc., of at least £4K per annum. The successful candidate will have completed (or nearly completed) a PhD in Mathematics or Statistics or a closely related area prior to their appointment, and will have demonstrated a capacity to produce world-class research. Duties would include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research projects. The role holders will be expected to plan and manage their own research and administration, with guidance if required. They must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts. The successful candidate may be asked to lecture one course per year at Part III (Masters or graduate) level, or to provide a comparable level of teaching support to other members within the Statistical Laboratory (e.g. examples classes). Duties and their timing are flexible. They may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating their research area.
