Post-doc in statistical decision-making at Lancaster University

We invite applications for a Senior Post-Doctoral Research Associate position to join the Next Generation Converged Digital infrastructure (NG-CDI) programme (NG-CDI) at Lancaster University. NG-CDI is an exciting, cross-disciplinary research project that will forge the foundational research needed to underpin the next generation converged digital infrastructure for the UK. This £5M programme is jointly funded by BT and the EPSRC. The consortium brings together research groups from the Universities of Lancaster, Cambridge, Bristol and Surrey to work alongside BT, one of the world’s leading communications service providers.

This post will to be to investigate decision-making frameworks alongside anomaly and change-detection on network data. There is scope to significantly shape the project to your interests; the kind of topics we are interested in include deciding when to flag a putative anomaly to a human engineer for investigation/labelling, recommending which intervention to action given current features of the network, and using feedback from the decision-making process to tune anomaly detection algorithms. In this sense, we are working to bring recommender systems and/or bandit techniques to bear on large scale network data.

You should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in Statistics, Machine Learning, Operations Research or a related discipline. You will be experienced in one of more of the following areas: computational statistics; recommender systems; sequential decision-making. A demonstrable ability to produce academic writing of the highest publishable quality is essential.

We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.
