The L3S Research Center, Hannover, Germany, invites applications for
3 fully funded PhD student positions
in the areas of Data and Text Mining, Machine Learning, Semantic Technologies and Natural Language Processing.
We are starting a new project funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 research & innovation programme under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks. The project is entitled KnowGraphs “Knowledge Graphs at Scale” and offers in total 15 PhD positions. One of these PhD positions will be located in Prof. Nejdl’s group, Germany, the other two in Prof. Staab’s research group.
Indicative topic titles are:
Knowledge graph creation using neural embeddings from word and data (Staab)
Managing polymorphic knowledge graphs (Staab)
Hybrid representations of knowledge graphs for search (Nejdl)
The PhD positions foresee internships at several international project partners (academic and industrial).
The candidates should possess good knowledge in one or several areas relevant for the topics specified in this announcement. Good proficiency in English is expected; knowledge of further European languages is of advantage. International experience during your studies or afterwards as well as good social and communication skills are helpful.
The positions are offered full-time for three years (36 months).
To be eligible the applicant must satisfy the mobility requirements of Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions, explained in full detail at [1]. According to these guidelines (page 6), at the time of recruitment, the potential candidate “must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date. Compulsory national service, short stays such as holidays, and time spent as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention (1951) are not taken into account.” Furthermore, according to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie rules, Early-Stage Researchers shall, at the time of recruitment by the host organisation, “be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and have not been awarded a doctoral degree”.
The salary amounts to German TV-L E13, which is roughly 48.000 Euro income in the first year and 52.000 Euro in the second and third year.
