UCC wishes to appoint a permanent Senior Lecturer within the School of Mathematical Sciences. This position will play an important role in the development of statistical science and related disciplines in the School, including supporting its responsibilities for delivery of the core technical syllabus of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and associated programme accreditation.

Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent qualification in Statistics, or closely related Data Analytic area such as Actuarial Science, Biostatistics, Statistical Finance, or Statistical/Machine Learning, and have a track record of independent research of international standing. Reporting to the Head of School of Mathematical Sciences, appointees will have relevant teaching and collaborative experience enabling them to provide leadership in development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Appointees are expected to develop the research profile of Statistics and to collaborate with colleagues to build external partnerships in order to obtain funding for support of PhD students. Practical commitment to internationalization in teaching and research activities is essential.

The School is seeking to enhance its research collaborations with the leading research institutes and centres in UCC including, the Insight Centre for Data Analytics, the Environmental Research Institute, MaREI Centre for Marine and Renewable Energy Ireland, APC Microbiome Ireland, Tyndall National Institute. The opportunity for someone with the right skills to engage in exciting data driven scientific collaborations is enormous.

George Boole, credited with laying the mathematical foundations for the Information Age, is UCCs most famous scholar and its first Professor of Mathematics. The School of Mathematical Sciences (Mathematical Sciences | University College Cork ), has 25 permanent academic staff FTEs including Chairs in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics. The School has research linkage across campus including Medicine and Health. There is also academic collaboration with the School of Computer Science and the INSIGHT Center for Data Analytics (Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics)

Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
