The UCD School of Mathematics and Statistics is seeking to recruit a post-doctoral researcher with experience in statistical modelling, Bayesian methods and related computational skills. This is a temporary, 2-year Post-doctoral Research Fellow post funded by the Science Foundation Ireland VistaMilk Research Centre (www.vistamilk.ie). VistaMilk is a unique collaboration between agri-food and information communications technology (ICT) research institutes and leading Irish/multinational food and ICT companies.
The successful candidate will work on genomic evaluations across multiple traits and breeds, developing novel statistical models and inferential techniques to extract insights from the large-scale datasets generated by advanced technologies within the VistaMilk research programme. This is an opportunity to develop cutting edge research-based solutions to real-world problems and see their deployment. The role will involve working collaboratively with other VistaMilk researchers.
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- PhD in statistics or machine learning
- Expertise in statistical modelling and/or Bayesian statistics
- A demonstrated commitment to research and publications
- An understanding of the operational requirements for a successful research project
- Evidence of research activity (publications, conference presentations, awards) and future scholarly output (working papers, research proposals, and ability to outline a research project).
- Excellent communication skills (oral, written , presentation etc).
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills including a proven ability to work to deadlines.
- Experience in statistical genetics would be beneficial.
Depending on experience, salary will be in the range €37,874 - €43, 782 per annum (Post-doctoral Level I) or €45,041 - €49, 049 per annum (Post-doctoral Level II).
