DESCRIPTION:
Postdoc at IESE Business School in Barcelona. Operations management and education Quality education is Goal #4 in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, which specifically asks to “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. The education process has been studied in didactics and pedagogy, and it is surprising to see that there has been limited work using Operations Research methods. Operations Management has helped improve work practices in production contexts, so why couldn’t it also contribute to improving the education process? We specifically seek to consider the micro-details of what is being taught, its sequence and the role of the teacher in adapting a curriculum to the characteristics of students. These elements should affect macro-level outcomes, including academic achievement as well as engagement.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
- As a postdoctoral researcher, you will participate in research projects around learning analytics, to (1) model the education process, (2) analyze real data on what is being taught, how and with what results, and (3) evaluate the impact of interventions on the process.
- The position provides a unique opportunity to work with a team of expert researchers, lead by Prof. Victor Martínez-de-Albéniz, at IESE Business School in Barcelona, a world-class research institution.
- It should also lead to publications and strengthen the postdoc’s profile to pursue a career in academics.
REQUIREMENTS:
- PhD in operations management, operations research, industrial engineering, statistics, mathematics or a similar degree preferred.
- Fluency in written and oral English.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Knowledge of an analytics software package like R or python is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and in small teams.
- Excellent work ethic.
- Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills.
CONDITIONS:
One-year contract, renewable. Based at IESE Business School in Barcelona.
