About the job:

As a key member of the newly formed Operations Research unit you will solve our hardest operational challenges with data. Cooperating with Operations, Engineering and Data you will drive operations excellence to support our fast-paced growth. Key tasks and Accountabilities:
* Identify potential for optimisation along Paack’s operations, from collection of parcels at warehouses of our customers, to sorting and distribution, all the way to last mile delivery.
* Translate business objectives into data, and develop analytics solutions and action plans.
* Manage and adapt action plans in response to unforeseen situations, priorities, and new data realities.
* Collect business requirements from stakeholders and deliver easy to understand analyses to support decision-making
* Communicate effectively with multiple teams to find synergies and establish collaboration schemes
* Forecast customer demand to improve planning, to save labor and transportation costs, and to increase productivity and overall customer service quality.
* Examine quantitative and qualitative information and deploy analytical methods to find practical solutions to business problems.
* Solve optimisation problems in collaborations with Senior Researchers: routing and scheduling of trucks across the distribution network, topology decisions for network expansion, optimal allocation of volumes to last-mile carriers, dynamic rerouting, etc.
What are we looking for?
* 2+ years of industry experience solving optimisation problems, forecasting demand, simulations and operations planning in logistics or transportation.
* Degree in Operations Research, Mathematics, Data Science or similar.
* Proficiency in Python, as well as SQL, data exploration and optimisation solvers like Gurobi, Cplex or open source equivalents. Knowledge of Google Cloud, Big Query and Looker is a plus.
* Experience in handling large data sets and proven track record of robust data analysis.
* Comfortable facilitating ideation and working from concept through to execution.
* Self-motivated; ability to handle multiple responsibilities under limited supervision.
* Excellent communication and story-telling skills (visual, verbal and written), ability to conduct cross-department projects and thrive in a fast-paced environment
* Strong English skills. Spanish, French or German is a plus
