Polytechnique Montréal, in partnership with Université de Montréal and HEC Montréal, has been awarded a prestigious Canada Excellence Research Chair (www.cerc.gc.ca) in the realm of information technology, one of four priority fields defined in the Science and Technology Strategy of the Government of Canada.
The objective of the Chair in "Data science for real-time decision making", endowed with resources of the order of $30 million dollars over seven years, is to foster worldclass research at the frontier of machine learning and operations research. This will lead, in the context of the processing of large quantities of data ("Big Data"), to the development of new optimization tools for online decision making. The Chair will be involved in the training of highly qualified personnel, and technology transfer to industrial, health care, transport or public organizations is strongly encouraged.
The Chair will benefit from an exceptional collaborative environment composed of 800 scientists, most of them associated with two of the world’s largest operations research centres: CIRRELT (Centre interuniversitaire de recherche sur les réseaux d’entreprises, la logistique et le transport) (www.cirrelt.ca) and GERAD (Groupe d’études et de recherche en analyse des decisions) (www.cerc.gc.ca).
