The Prometeo 2016 project “The Next Systems Biology: development of statistical methods for the biology of multiomic systems” is a project of excellence funded by the Valencian Government. This is a multidisciplinary project in which the Genomics of Gene Expression group (Dra. Ana Conesa Cegarra) and the Gene Expression and RNA metabolism group (Dra. Susana Rodríguez-Navarro) from Centro de Investigación Príncipe (CIPF), and the Multivariate Statistical Engineering Group (Dr. Alberto Ferrer-Riquelme) from the Technical University of Valencia (UPV) participate. The goal of this project is to generate statistical methods for the multiomics analysis. For this, histone ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, GRO-seq and PAR-CLIP data will be generated in a yeast model.

Within this project a three-year pre-doctoral contract is offered to develop a thesis in multivariate statistical models for the integration of omic data. The PhD thesis will be co-supervised by Dr. Ana Conesa (CIPF) and Dr. Alberto Ferrer (UPV). The candidate will join the Genomics of Gene Expression group at the CIPF and will also be linked to the Multivariate Statistical Engineering Group at the UPV. The candidate must be enrolled in the PhD program in Statistics and Optimization of the UPV.

Basic requirements of the position:

• To have Spanish nationality, or to be a national of a member state of the European Union or to be a foreigner with authorization or residence permission or for studying in Spain, if applicable.
– Degree in statistics, mathematics, bioinformatics, biotechnology, engineering, or related degrees including statistical training
– Master’s degree
– Average grade of the academic record equal to or greater than 7.5 points (calculated according to Real Decreto 1125/2003, 5th of September)
– High level of spoken and written English

Other merits:

– Experience in programming languages (Python, Perl, C / C ++) and Linux systems.
– Knowledge of the molecular aspects of genome organization.
– Good communicator, assertive and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team. Flexibility and planning.

El proyecto Prometeo 2016 “The Next Systems Biology: desarrollo de métodos estadísticos para la biología de sistemas multiómica” es un proyecto de excelencia financiado por la Generalitat Valenciana. Se trata de un proyecto multidisciplinar en el que participan los grupos de Genómica de la Expresión Génica (Dra. Ana Conesa Cegarra) y de Expresión Génica y Metabolismo del RNA (Dra. Susana Rodríguez-Navarro) del Centro de Investigación Príncipe (CIPF), y el grupo de Ingeniería Estadística Multivariante (Dr. Alberto Ferrer-Riquelme) de la Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). El objetivo del proyecto es generar métodos estadísticos para el análisis multiómico. Para ello se generarán datos de ChIP-seq de histonas, RNA-seq, GRO-seq y PAR-CLIP, en un modelo de levadura.

Dentro de este proyecto se oferta un contrato pre-doctoral de tres años para desarrollar una tesis en modelos estadísticos multivariantes para la integración de datos ómicos. La tesis estará codirigida por Dra. Ana Conesa (CIPF) y Dr. Alberto Ferrer (UPV). El candidato se incorporará al grupo de Genómica de la Expresión Génica en el CIPF y estará también vinculado al grupo de Ingeniería Estadística Multivariante de la UPV. Asimismo, deberá estar matriculado en el programa de doctorado de Estadística y Optimización de la UPV.

Se requiere:

– Licenciatura o grado en estadística, matemáticas, bioinformática, biotecnología, ingeniería, o titulaciones relacionadas que incluyan formación en estadística
– Nota media del expediente académico igual o superior a 7.5 puntos
– Titulación de máster
– Alto nivel de inglés tanto hablado como escrito

Se valorará:

– Experiencia en lenguajes de programación (R, MATLAB, Python, Perl, C/C++) y en sistemas Linux.
– Conocimiento de los aspectos moleculares de la organización del genoma.
– Buen comunicador, asertivo y capacidad de trabajo en un equipo multidisciplinar. Flexibilidad y planificación.
