DESCRIPTION:  

Are you interested in developing novel statistical methods for relevant problems with complex, high-dimensional and network-structured data? Do you want to contribute to the high-tech systems sector, a core strength of the Brainport region and central to initiatives such as the Beethoven project? We are looking for three assistant professors, eager to expand our expertise in complementary and new directions.

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at TU/e would like to welcome three new colleagues in the statistics group of the Statistics, Probability and Operations Research (SPOR) cluster. You will be working on foundational and applied problems driven and/or inspired by modern data challenges in science and engineering. Appointment on Associate Professor level may be possible, depending on the level of seniority, professional qualifications, and overall track record.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Motivated researcher, with a PhD in statistics, mathematics, or a closely related field. A few years of research experience after the PhD (e.g., postdoctoral experience) and international research experience is highly desirable.
• Ability to conduct high quality academic research, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in relevant, high-ranked journals or conferences and invitations to speak at leading international conferences in the corresponding field.
• Vision and willingness to carve and pursue a research plan including supervision of PhD projects and committing to build strong external partnerships. Motivation to obtain funding from external sources to support innovative projects and drive impactful research.
• Strong affinity with real-world applications.
• Motivated to teach, contribute to teaching processes, and to develop excellent teaching skills.
• Strong cooperation skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
• Effective communication and leadership skills, including coaching and mentoring of students and staff, leading a project or chairing a group.
• Excellent (written and verbal) proficiency in English.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• An 18-month contract as Assistant Professor which can become permanent after 12 months on the same employment level upon successful evaluation. Experienced candidates might be offered a permanent contract already at the start of employment.
• Salary in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale 11 (min. €4,728 max. €6,433).
• A year-end bonus of 8.3{06fdc68f0c32a4bb4bc587245a8893a97471dc602b4e431d14a97651d507d6d7} and annual vacation pay of 8{06fdc68f0c32a4bb4bc587245a8893a97471dc602b4e431d14a97651d507d6d7}.
