On April 1, at 12:30, professor Winfried Stute, of Giessen's University in Germany, will be honored with the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa of University of Santiago de Compostela. The act will take place in the Salón Noble of the Colegio Fonseca.
Professor Stute is an authority worldwide in the field of the empirical processes and its applications to the Statistics. He has carried out numerous methodological developments in the Mathematical Statistics. His studies on the modules of oscillation in the empirical processes inside the theory of the probability with its applications to the Smoothing techniques, resampling techniques, tests of goodness of fit, etc., they are an example of his wide scientific digest.
His studies studies in the analysis of survival and more recently in the context of the stochastic mathematics in finance, are a good proof of his interest for the fields of maximum relevancy in the current mathematics.
Professor Stute had and still has narrow relations with mathematical researchers of the Galician universities, of the University of the Basque Country and of the University Carlos III, taking part in the imparting of numerous seminars and diverse courses of doctorate. His 22 years of uninterrupted visits to the University of Santiago have made him deserving of this honorific distinction. The laudatio to his figure will be given by the professor Wenceslao Gonzalez Manteiga of the Department of Statistics and O.R. of the University of Santiago de Compostela.
